William Sroka, grade 2, “Van Gogh Inspired Sunflower,” oil pastel on paper, 9×12 in.
Second graders learned about the life and work of Vincent Van Gogh. They were asked to create a drawing inspired by the style of the Dutch painter. First we practiced the shape of an ellipse and vase. Once comfortable with the shapes, students were asked to use oil pastels to create sunflowers inside their vessels. William took a few weeks to carefully craft his artwork. I was so impressed that he took his time to beautifully shade and blend oil pastels together. Nice job!
