Painting Outside – An Introduction and Continuing Practice Spring 2022

Painting Outside – An Introduction and continuing practice
Thursday mornings 9:30-12:30 (6 classes)
An In-person Class! May 12-June 16 – on the Zullo deck!

An In-person Class! Starts May 12 – on the Zullo deck! It is so easy to take an outdoor photo these days but there is no comparison to the absorbing act of distilling intense and changing sensations into something only you can capture. This class takes place on Zullo’s balcony/rooftopdeck where we have the benefits of plein air light and subject matter along with the conveniences of a studio. It’s a good way to ease into an outdoor adventure. Our journey will stress process and growth and will cover options for equipment, selecting what to draw or paint, dealing with changing light and atmosphere and practicing the most important elements of drawing (how tall, how wide, at what angle) and painting (values, simplification, color). Some instruction and painting may be done in a Zoom class or in the studio if we have weather problems. ALL LEVELS WELCOME!

The instructor: RON KROUK has an MFA from the School of the Museum of Fine Arts and received his BA from Brandeis University. He was also a scholarship student at the Skowhegan School for Painting and Sculpture in Maine. He has drawn and painted since childhood, attended art classes at the Art Students League in NYC while in high school, and studied with Michael Mazur at Brandeis where he gradually found himself moving away from art toward the field of psychology. He worked in that field for several years before returning to art school. In 2010 he retired from IBM, returned to art, studied with George Nick, and is now teaching at Concord Art and Danforth Art. His work has been favorably reviewed by Sebastian Smee in the Boston Globe. Ron is a gifted teacher — as his many loyal students will attest. He is intrigued by the mystery of representing the three dimensional world in two dimensions and by communicating that to his students.
