Owen Aronowitz, grade 3, “Monet Inspired Landscape,” oil pastel on paper, 9×12 in.
Third graders created oil pastel drawings in the style of Claude Monet. We discussed the life and work of the French impressionist painter. Students were then asked to create a drawing that felt like “plain air” or as if they were working outside. Owen did a fantastic job creating his outdoor space. His use of blending cool colors in the sky creates a dark and stormy mood in the atmosphere. Owen’s work is a great example of exploring and appreciating materials.
