Mary A La Mode

Grace O'Donnell, grade 12, "Mary A La Mode," mixed media, 18x14 in. In this thoughtful portrait, Grace considers the elevation of fashion icons to false idols in contemporary society. She uses ink to gently stipple the face of a haloed woman and then engulfs her in a sea of swirling logos.

If any shortcuts are taken, a coil built pot will crack or crumble. Here, Bailey has passed these hurdles, and created her own take on the coil pot, adding her own twist on a traditional method.
