Heather Hartzell, grade 1, “Art Dog,” cut paper/oil pastel/watercolor, 12×14 in.
“Art Dog” is a creative story about a dog who works at an art museum by day, and is an artist by night. Combining watercolor resist painting and collage, students created their own “City Rhapsody.” Heather’s night sky emulates Van Gogh’s “Starry, Starry Night” with an emphasis on the contrasting colors to make the stars visually “pop” or stand out. Her attention, also, to the technique of watercolor “wash” is evident throughout the artwork creating a complete and uniform artwork.
