  • Maverick Fox, grade 3, "Observational Drawing," pencil & crayon on paper, 9x12 in. Third grade students were asked to draw from observation. We studied values and practiced using our pencils to shade in order to make objects look three dimensional. Maverick's observation is a true sign of the times! He was able to look around his working space and notice so many details. Even his computer screen has his Zoom showing, with all of his classmates' smiling faces. Beautiful use of observation in your drawing, Mav!

  • Owen Aronowitz, grade 3, "Monet Inspired Landscape," oil pastel on paper, 9x12 in. Third graders created oil pastel drawings in the style of Claude Monet. We discussed the life and work of the French impressionist painter. Students were then asked to create a drawing that felt like "plain air" or as if they were working outside. Owen did a fantastic job creating his outdoor space. His use of blending cool colors in the sky creates a dark and stormy mood in the atmosphere. Owen's work is a great example of exploring and appreciating materials.
