Rachel Parry, grade 11, “Flaming Fist of Anger,” ceramics, 7x4x5 in.
The process of creating a ceramic sculpture can be tricky. Not only does the artist have to have strong technical knowledge to make a sculpture look appealing and physically balanced, but much is left up to chance during the firing and glazing process. During this process, pieces can crack or explode and glaze can run, flake off, or come out differently than expected. In this sculpture, everything went according to plan. This piece is a physical interpretation of the way anger feels. In this sculpture, Rachel represents anger as a fist surrounded by flames of rage.
