A Walk

A Walk

Ryan Mahan, grade 4, “A Walk,” colored pencil, 9×12 in.
For this assignment, students were given the challenge to create the illusion of distance in a work. Ryan used elements of perspective and positioning on the page to create the illusion of depth.
Category: 26th Annual Medfield Public Schools Student-Faculty Art Exhibition

  • Brooke Bean, grade 3, "Relief Sculpture," crayon & glue on paper, 9x12 in. Brooke used analogous colors, or colors next to each other on the wheel, to help create her sculpture. After carefully coloring both sides of her paper, Brooke cut, folded, frayed, twisted, and curled her paper. She then carefully arranged and attached each of her pieces to a base paper to make her relief sculpture. I'm so proud of Brooke for her beautiful work. This project took time and patience. It's evident Brooke took her time to create such a well crafted piece.

  • Moira Kay, grade 9, "Layered Portrait, Covered," digital print, 5x7 in. Students in Photo 2 explore the technique of layered imagery to give a sense of time and movement to their work. In this photo, Moira is exploring this idea through portraiture. Her work expresses the feeling of disconnectedness we are all feeling this past year as we withdraw into our own selves.

  • Mosbah Tayara, grade 10, "Green Day," digital print, 13x19 in. Students were asked to create an original design for an unmade album of music by an artist. By combining their own photos and artwork (even the lettering was done by hand) through the tools in Photoshop and Illustrator, students explore the art of the album cover. Mosbah's work presents an original and cohesive use of the language of graphic design through his use of layering original imagery, vector-based drawing, and textural overlays.
