This will be the first comprehensive retrospective of the artist Peter Campbell. Over 60 works in oil, acrylic and watercolor will be showcased. The exhibit will prominently feature Campbell's recent work on the subject of baseball.
"For the last 10 years I have used paint, brush and palette knife to journey through the history, light and shadows of America's great pastime. Old-time players named Mordecai "Three Fingers" Brown, "Home Run Baker," "Chief" Albert Bender, and "Cool" Papa Bell became my teammates as I struggled with thick layers of oil paint to once again bring them back into play. I believe that baseball is a very important thread that weaves its way through the complex tapestry that we call America" P.C.
Also on display will be earlier works exploring the American urban landscape, as well as paintings created as a member of the NASA Space Art Program in the late 1980s. Rounding out the show will be selections from an ongoing series of large paintings titled "Contemporary American Portraits," which explores old historical photographs of faces from America's turbulent past.
