Zullo Gallery Kids Fall Art Classes - 2018

For students who have previously taken either class, new subjects to draw, paint etc. will be introduced.

Spaces and Faces: Creating Portraits, Self-Portraits and Other Compositions in a Variety of Media
September-October 2018
Tuesday afternoons 2:30-3:45
(for students in grades 6-8)


Students in grades 6-8 will be introduced to the work of such artists as Picasso, Matisse, Jacob Lawrence, Mary Cassatt, Alexander Calder and Claes Oldenburg. Drawing techniques and the elements of design such as color, line, shape, composition and texture will be discussed. Students will work with a variety of materials including pen and ink, yarn, watercolor, pencil, charcoal and collage to create still-lifes, portraits, self-portraits and other images of their choice. An exciting class for kids who love to draw and create!

Kerry Gorton Evans has been making paintings for as long as she can remember and has been a teacher of art to students of all ages for over two decades. She has taught in schools, museums and art centers throughout New England, including The DeCordova Museum, The Danforth Museum School, Beaver Country Day School, the Andover Public Schools, and The Riverbend School. Her work is in collections across the country and has been exhibited in galleries on the east and west coasts. She holds an Ed. M in the Arts in Education from Harvard and an MAT in Art Education from Tufts / the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston. Kerry is also a registered yoga teacher and lives in Medfield with her husband and two school-aged sons.

Creative Collections: A Mixed Media Exploration of Famous and Favorite Artists
September-October 2018
Tuesday afternoons 4:15-5:30
(for students in grades 3-5)


Children in grades 3-5 will explore and be inspired by the work of such artists as Georgia O'Keeffe, Vincent Van Gogh, Henri Matisse, Stuart Davis and Sonia Delaunay. Media such as watercolor paint, drawing materials, pastels and collage will be introduced and explored. Fun and messy, informative and creative!

Drawing / Mixed Media

(Students in grades 1 - 3)

5 Saturday mornings 9:00-10:15 10/13, 10/20, 10/27 11/3, 11/10 Instructor: Kurt Jackson

This class will combine drawing skills - from beginner to advanced - with a wide variety of media. Each child will have the opportunity to develop their artistic skills at their own pace with individual instruction from an experienced teacher in a small group setting.

Cartoons + Clay / drawing & building

(Students in grades 3 - 5)

5 Saturday mornings 10:30-11:45 10/13, 10/20, 10/27 11/3, 11/10 Instructor: Kurt Jackson

This class will help students learn how to develop form, texture, shading and positive and negative space by using several techniques with charcoal and pencil while using some of their favorite cartoon figures as subjects The students will focus on cartoon drawing as well as proportions of the human body. Caricature drawing will also be touched upon. In addition, students will have the opportunity to bring their drawings into the three dimensional world by building them out of clay.

Kurt Jackson is a professional artist and storyteller and currently teaches at the Medfield After School Program.
